A popular destination, celebrity chef, and only 29 rooms, make this boutique hotel a hot, new favourite.
Lets face it, Goa is like a bit of a bad habit. You hate the Russian invasion, South Goa is fast becoming is ‘too cool’ for you, and the luxury hotel prices — I mean, you might as well fly to Bali. So then, what keeps us coming back for more? Let’s be precise — walks along Fontainhas, crazy nights at Club.
Cubana, and tan days at Butterfly Island. There is nothing that Goa has hidden from us, and that comfortable, easy feeling is probably the only reason we can never be done with Goa.
So looking for the much-needed ROA we ended up in Baga (we already told you about old habits dying hard), but away from hundreds of small shacks and bars, finding our way to the newest luxe boutique hotel — Acron Waterfront Resort.
Each room overlooks the creek and then ultimately the sea, and is a slice of heaven. The decor is a mish-mash — cosy rooms with silver cutlery reminding us of the days of the Raj. But as soon as you step out of the room, the typical Portuguese colours make you feel you’re back in Goa again. You can choose to go fishing or just explore the shacks at night — all your travel will be provided by the hotel.
But come to Acton Waterfront Resort for the River Restaurant. Set up by celebrity chef Cyrus Todiwala (he’s cooked up a meal for the Queen of England) and he’s not interested in creating a menu. The food changes every day depending on the available local catch and produce, and is flavoured with robust and original Goan flavours. Taste what an original =cull curry feels like, and don’t forget there’s plenty to choose from the seafood platter too.
